How healthy is your workplace? Per the State of the Global Workplace: 2026 Report, 52% of employees globally say when thinking about their current job, now is a good time to look elsewhere.
If over 50% of your team members left, what would the impact be, and could/how would you recover?
In HR Pulse Daily, Ishani Mohanty shares 5 criteria that he feels leaders must provide:
- Empathy That Exceeds Phrases
Empathy is a necessity; workers want to be understood, heard and seen, with their leaders showing genuine concern for them. His recap is that the impact on trust will be astounding. - Effective Communication in a Noisy Environment
Slack, Zoom, and AI-generated updates are tiring with workers wanting greater
communication, not more. They want clear expectations, and helpful and sincere feedback. - More than Pay Cheques, Purpose
Purpose is far more important than pay, although pay is a factor. Workers want their work to be important, with leaders sharing how they are contributing to achieving goals. - Personal Growth
Development plans need to be personalized and include interests, aspirations, and strengths. It’s more than promotions; it includes skill-building, mentorships, and overall career growth. - Adaptability Without Shame
Top managers prioritize results over time spent. They provide flexible work hours based on individual needs resulting in stronger trust and relationships, and they understand that work will be completed. Workers want autonomy free from criticism or condemnation.
In a nutshell, workers want flexibility, with their leaders listening to and supporting their needs.
Lead by listening – to be a good leader you need to be a great listener.
