Leading With Confidence

You’ve been promoted; it’s a position you’ve worked hard to be a candidate for and now it’s real. What’s next?

We may grow in our career, but too often we do not have a mentor or professional relationships that will help us better understand our new role and suggest development options that help us grow and lead with confidence.

We bet this rings a bell for you, or perhaps you’ve seen a colleague experience this. Forbes magazine provides 6 tips to lead with confidence. Excerpts are:

Learn To Listen
Take the time to listen to the ideas and concerns of your team. You will better understand their needs, strengths and weaknesses, enable them to apply their Magic Dust™ (aka strengths), and show that you are open and willing to work with them to achieve common goals.

Take Responsibility
Blaming others for things gone wrong is not an option, rather seek solutions and learn from them. When you take responsibility, you are perceived as honest and trustworthy, which can strengthen your team’s confidence in you.

Be Authentic
A team respects and follows you if you are real. Be aware of your strengths, limitations and vulnerabilities and do not be afraid to show them. Be real, act in accordance with your values and convictions, and remain true to yourself.

Lead By Example
To develop your confidence as a leader, manage by setting an example. Follow your words with actions inspiring others to adopt effective behaviors that lead to success.

Prioritize Transparent Communication
Open and honest communication creates a stronger relationship of trust and inclusion and prevents misunderstandings and conflicts.

Develop The Potential Of Each Individual
Leading with confidence includes learning to identify and highlight the strengths and talents of each member. By doing this you optimize the strengths and qualities of each team member and help them grow in their career while obtaining desired results.

We recently had a Leadership Journey© graduate tell us:
I feel more confident than ever—both in myself and in how I show up at work.

Leading with confidence includes being self-aware and investing in yourself and building strong and lasting relationships. What actions have you taken?

A good leader inspires people to have confidence in the leader. A great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves.
