We must be clear; we must hold ourselves and others accountable

360′ Feedback is critical for growth and understanding how we show up to others. In our COMPASS 360 assessment, our leadership behaviors and balancing skills are rated, providing us with invaluable information.

In the past few weeks, we’ve talked about AWARENESS and MAGIC DUST™ and VMGM=B and COMMUNICATION; this week we’ll share behaviors and balancing skills for:

CLARITY and ACCOUNTABILITY

So often we think our message is clear and understood, when in actuality it is not interpreted the way we had hoped. The key CLARITY behaviors include:

  • Present a plan that is clear, concise, and achievable
  • Present a plan that provides the actions that are needed
  • Present a plan with clearly defined roles

With the balancing skills of:

  • Eliminates Obscurities
  • Validates Required Actions
  • Aligns Roles to Goals

For ACCOUNTABILITY, the behaviors include:

  • Holds himself/herself accountable for mistakes as necessary and appropriate
  • Holds others accountable for mistakes when necessary and appropriate
  • Takes responsibility and promotes others to do the same

The balancing skills are:

  • Demonstrates Integrity
  • Develops Others
  • Creates Accountability Culture

We often hear that when feedback is obtained for these two behaviors, people are surprised that they rate themselves higher than how their colleagues rate them.

Confirm that your message is clearly understood and hold yourself and others accountable to the standards your work culture demands.

Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
