And, the best part is that we can increase our EQ through self-development.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Having a high EQ builds relationships and fosters communication and consists of the following 4 areas:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Self Awareness<\/strong> (critical when engaging in communication)<br \/>\n<strong>Self Management<\/strong> (key for managing emotions in difficult situations)<br \/>\n<strong>Social Awareness<\/strong> (leverages awareness of others to perform at their peak)<br \/>\n<strong>Relationship Management<\/strong> (manages relationships to increase job performance and integrates EQ professionally and personally)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bradberry says the following about exceptional employees:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They neutralize toxic people. Exceptional employees control their interactions with toxic people by keeping their feelings in check and confront the toxic person rationally.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They\u2019re marketable. Exceptional employees are well liked and have integrity and can be trusted to represent the brand well.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They\u2019re accountable. They own their work, their decisions, and all of their results\u2014good or bad.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They recognize when things are broken and fix them. They see problems as issues to be fixed immediately and don\u2019t walk past the problem.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 They\u2019re never satisfied.
