Maybe, because for years we\u2019ve been sharing that &#8220;<\/span><i style=\"letter-spacing: 0px;\">Leadership is a process, not an event&#8221;.<\/i><\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Displaying leadership skills and abilities\u00a0consistently\u00a0is a must; we must live our lives with the character required to build and maintain meaningful relationships which will position us to help and influence others to flourish in their career (and in their life).<\/span><\/p><\/div><div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There are many traits that have been identified as &#8220;musts&#8221; for effective and successful leaders, and we don\u2019t disagree, but feel that one is the most critical:<\/span><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><h5><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><strong>***\u00a0\u00a0Trust ***<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/h5><div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Here\u2019s our rationale:\u00a0<\/span><\/div><p>\u00a0<\/p><div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1. To be a leader (successful or otherwise), you must have followers<\/span><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">2. You can\u2019t succeed without strong relationships<\/span><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">3. Building trust and confidence with direct reports, colleagues and vendors is essential<\/span><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">4. Your peers, subordinates and co-workers will work around you if you are perceived as untrustworthy or not living the values you require from them, or they from you<\/span><\/div><div>\u00a0<\/div><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">5.\u00a0Trust can be lost (or never obtained) when:<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You are too direct.\u00a0\u00a0People can be caught off guard and become uncomfortable resulting in your message and intention often misinterpreted<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Point fingers or are too quick to assess blame<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Play favorites or only give a &#8220;chosen few&#8221; opportunities<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jump to conclusions<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fail to solicit opinions or differing ideas<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Don\u2019t &#8220;walk the talk&#8221;<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Are unable to say no and as a result over commit<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Don\u2019t treat others respectfully<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Won\u2019t take a stand (or make one and continually change it)<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Are disorganized<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Exhibit inconsistent behaviors and have inconsistent expectations<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Are non responsive<\/span><\/li><\/ul><ul><li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lack the ability to admit mistakes<\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Trust produces lasting, positive, and productive relationships and obtains results.
