{"id":865,"date":"2015-07-30T00:00:50","date_gmt":"2015-07-30T00:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dev-peopletekcoaching.pantheon.io\/?p=865"},"modified":"2021-10-14T21:38:04","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T21:38:04","slug":"accountable-and-responsible","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/2015\/07\/30\/accountable-and-responsible\/","title":{"rendered":"Accountable and Responsible"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Being accountable and holding others accountable is not a new topic in the workplace, or at home for that matter, and is often a struggle for leaders.<\/p>\n<h2>What can we do to improve accountability?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Be specific and clearly identify what was committed to with timeframes<\/li>\n<li>Obtain buy-in<\/li>\n<li>Promptly communicate any changes impacting the commitment; escalate as needed<\/li>\n<li>Seek clarity if a task or assignment is vague<\/li>\n<li>Make sure our actions (and those of others) support what was committed to<\/li>\n<li>Address all behaviors and actions that are contrary to being accountable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>A culture of accountability makes a good organization great and a great organization unstoppable.<br \/>\n\u2014Henry J. Evans, author of <em>Winning With Accountability,<\/em>\u00a0says:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Accountability is about high performance and not fear or stress.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s about holding yourself (and others) to a standard that improves performance.<\/li>\n<li>When holding someone accountable we must recognize and respect the power of intention (this allows all staff to hold one another accountable regardless of title or level)<\/li>\n<li>Continually ask \u201cHow am I doing\u201d?<\/li>\n<li>Set crystal clear expectations<\/li>\n<li>When things don\u2019t go as planned, ask yourself:\n<ul>\n<li>Where did I fail to clearly communicate?<\/li>\n<li>Who did I forget to include in the process?<\/li>\n<li>What solution can I provide?<\/li>\n<li>What can I do to obtain more information to make a sound decision?<\/li>\n<li>What could have I done better or differently to improve the results?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>And the most important of all: How can I help?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Incorporate the word \u201cHOW\u201d in your daily activities.
