{"id":8633,"date":"2017-10-12T12:06:27","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T16:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/?p=8633"},"modified":"2021-10-14T21:38:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T21:38:42","slug":"leading-from-afar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/2017\/10\/12\/leading-from-afar\/","title":{"rendered":"Leading From Afar"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Leadership has challenges, and it becomes even more challenging when leading from afar.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Leadership has taken on new challenges with the need to lead not only those that are in the same location, but to also be effective across time zones, understand cultural differences, and keep telecommuters engaged and productive.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Per GlobalWorkplaceAnalystics\/2017:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Regular telecommuting grew 115% in the past decade<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>70% of employers offer flexible workplace options<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>50% of the US workforce holds a job with at least partial telework<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What does this mean to you as a leader?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a leader, regardless of where your staff is located, make certain that common goals are\u00a0clearly understood, encourage your team to value one another\u2019s strengths, and provide one another other with healthy, timely feedback.<\/p>\n<p>Leading remotely also means you need to be an even more skilled communicator.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t communicate just the bare minimum.<\/li>\n<li>Share what is expected of each individual and each location.<\/li>\n<li>Ensure all interactions end with closure.<\/li>\n<li>Check in regularly with each employee.<\/li>\n<li>Revisit the team goals and objectives; use \u201chere\u2019s where we are\u201d statements, ask questions, and invite everyone to share their opinion and thoughts about the progress that is being made.<\/li>\n<li>Ask your direct reports what they\u2019d like to hear about and ask for their feedback as to whether you are keeping them adequately informed.<\/li>\n<li>Support and \u201csell\u201d your team!
