Regardless of qualifications and accomplishments, studies show that men are almost always more confident than women, even when women are more talented.<\/p>\n<p>Why?\u00a0 Again, many studies have been conducted, but the common theme is that women are more likely to be perfectionists, and if things don\u2019t go 100% as planned, they view it as a failure. Think about that. We think everyone plans for 100% success, but is that reality?<\/p>\n<p>Success can require persistence, a behavior we frequently talk about. We define it as \u201cThe quality of continuing steadily despite problems or difficulties\u201d. That\u2019s reality! We need to learn from our set-backs, we need to assess what went well and what did not, we need to determine what could be done differently, and we need to pay attention to what we\u2019re feeling and hearing.<\/p>\n<p>Confidence is a &#8220;must have&#8221; for leaders! Without it we won&#8217;t be as willing to share our ideas or propose alternative solutions.And, confidence has been found to inspire and motivate others more so than intelligence and competence.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of gender, we all have \u201cgremlins\u201d (author Rick Carson defines them as \u201cself- defeating behaviors and beliefs).<\/p>\n<p>So what can we do? First of all, become aware. What gnaws at you? What creates a pit in your stomach? What prevents you from taking action? Peter Barron Stark shares that confidence improves when you:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are happy:<\/strong>\u00a0Feel positive about your ability to lead people and deal with daily challenges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Have better relationships:<\/strong>\u00a0Enter into positive, productive relationships.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are motivated and ambitious:<\/strong>\u00a0Set goals and commit to accomplishing them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laugh more:<\/strong>\u00a0Find humor even in challenging situations, and put things into perspective.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Are open to risks:<\/strong>\u00a0Forge into the unknown and learn from your mistakes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Recognize success:\u00a0<\/strong>Look for opportunities to genuinely recognize the success of others, and accept and be receptive to compliments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Accept feedback:<\/strong>\u00a0Welcome feedback from others and put their ideas into action.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Think for yourself:<\/strong>\u00a0Live your core values . . . ensure your words and actions are aligned and consistent.<\/p>\n<p>How\u2019s your confidence level?\u00a0 Do you turn your thoughts into actions?<br \/>\nQWIKTIPS \u2013 DOES GENDER MATTER &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.qwikcoachonline.com\/peopletek\/qwiktips\/t009.htm?utm_medium=email&amp;sslid=szA2sDQzNTU0MTIDAA&amp;sseid=MzQ1srSwMDIzMgMA&amp;jobid=aa021e15-951f-4fc2-b73c-d92e6db065cb\">click to read more<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Confidence is the stuff that turns thoughts into actions. \u2014Richard Petty, OSU Professor When it comes to confidence, gender matters.
