What\u2019s the timing of events?<br \/><br \/><div>\u00a0<\/div>If you\u2019re a newly promoted leader, it\u2019s essential to know:<br \/><div><ul><li>Your new roles\/responsibilities<\/li><li>Your individual goals<\/li><li>The goals of the department<\/li><li>How goals are tracked<\/li><li>How individuals (and the team) are measured<\/li><li>Team strengths and needs<\/li><li>Are there any existing challenges to be addressed<\/li><li>Do you need to &#8220;up&#8221; or acquire any new skills<\/li><li>Would a mentor be beneficial<\/li><li>Are you the decision maker for your budget? If not, who is?<\/li><li>And, ask your team members for their perspective about:<\/li><\/ul><\/div><div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Team strengths<\/div><div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Opportunities for growth or process changes<\/div><div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0What they appreciate most in a leader<\/div><div>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0Where the team requires the most over-sight\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<\/div><br \/><div>Note: Asking these questions provides you with an opportunity for one-on-one time and will help you build relationships.\u00a0\u00a0It also lets the team know you\u2019re willing to listen, and that you care about what they think.<\/div><br \/>If you\u2019re the leader of an emerging leader, provide:<br \/><ul><li>Role expectations<\/li><li>Individual and team goals<\/li><li>Known challenges ex.
