Here are the 7 Leadership Behaviors that Gallup has identified as essential competencies required for universal leadership excellence:<br \/><br \/>1. Build relationships\u00a0\u2013\u00a0We\u2019ve spoken extensively about this.\u00a0<i>&#8220;<\/i><i>Great leaders build genuine connections and trusting relationships with their peers, followers and networks.&#8221;<\/i><br \/><i><\/i><br \/>2. Develop people\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Again, this is not a new thought.\u00a0<i>&#8220;<\/i><i>Leaders must prioritize ongoing development for every individual in their organization&#8221;.<\/i><br \/><br \/>3. Lead change\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Understanding and leading through change is a given. &#8220;<i>Leaders should model desired behaviors and challenge people to take responsibility for change&#8221;.<\/i><br \/><i><\/i><br \/>4. Inspire others\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0Leadership matters!\u00a0<i>&#8220;People thrive in a positive and encouraging environment that conveys purpose, celebrates accomplishments and recognizes each person&#8217;s unique importance&#8221;<\/i>.<br \/><br \/>5. Think critically\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0This requires awareness and constant learning.\u00a0<i>&#8220;Great leaders are in a never-ending pursuit of information . . . establishing the goal, understanding risks . . . and \u00a0devising a comprehensive, multifaceted plan for execution<\/i>&#8220;.<br \/><br \/>6. Communicate clearly\u00a0\u2013\u00a0It\u2019s not just about speaking and listening, it\u2019s also about connections. &#8220;<i>Leaders should . . . fuel a culture with streamlined information sharing and informed decision-making<\/i>.\u00a0<i>People need to be listened to and listen themselves &#8212; and communication enables meaningful connections&#8221;.<\/i><br \/><br \/><b>7. Create accountability &#8211;\u00a0<\/b>Leaders hold themselves and others accountable.\u00a0<i>&#8220;Leaders should define what employees are accountable for, set and cascade goals, and infuse accountability in employee development&#8221;.<\/i><br \/><br \/>Chances are none of what was listed was new to you, but simple reminders can help us reinforce the behaviors we want to exhibit.
