An Interact\/Harris Leadership Communication Poll was conducted and employees rated their leaders as follows:<br \/><br \/><div>63% &#8211; employees were not recognized for their achievements<\/div><br \/><div>57% &#8211; employees were not given clear directions<\/div><br \/><div>52% &#8211; leaders did not have sufficient time to meet with them<\/div><br \/><div>51% &#8211; leaders refused to talk to subordinates<\/div><br \/><div>47% &#8211; their boss took credit for others&#8217; ideas<\/div><br \/><div>39% &#8211; constructive feedback was not provided<\/div><br \/><div>23% &#8211; there was no effort to ask about employees&#8217; lives outside of work<\/div><br \/>These numbers are certainly nothing to be proud of, but the good news is that we all have the ability to ensure our numbers are better than those reported. Taking them in order:<br \/><br \/><div>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0We need to seriously assess if we recognize accomplishments. If we\u2019re not doing it consistently, why not?<\/div><br \/><div>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Do we feel we provide clear direction? How could our opinion differ from that of our direct reports?\u00a0\u00a0Do we ever ask how they\u2019ve interpreted the message?<\/div><br \/><div>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Do we make ourselves available to meet and discuss issues without the employees\u00a0feeling rushed?<\/div><br \/><div>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Do we regularly schedule time to meet with our team members?<\/div><br \/><div>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Have you ever taken credit for work done by another?\u00a0<\/div><br \/><div>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Can you confidently and regularly provide feedback that is both positive as well as for growth opportunities?<\/div><br \/><div>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Do you invest the time to truly get to know your team?<\/div><br \/>Are you willing to ask your team how well you communicate (or don\u2019t!)?
