{"id":3450,"date":"2011-11-10T16:08:35","date_gmt":"2011-11-10T16:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/peopletek.server274.com\/?p=3450"},"modified":"2021-10-14T21:37:26","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T21:37:26","slug":"habits-good-vs-detrimental","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/2011\/11\/10\/habits-good-vs-detrimental\/","title":{"rendered":"Habits \u2013 Good vs. Detrimental"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/thinkexist.com\/quotation\/habit_is_either_the_best_of_servants_or_the_worst\/159388.html\">Habits are either the best of servants or the worst of masters<\/a>\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>\u00a0\u2013Nathaniel Emmons<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Our habits impact our lives and careers both negatively and positively.\u00a0 We need to objectively assess which are impeding our ability to succeed, from those which keep us on track for realizing our goals and dreams.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019ve graduated from PeopleTek\u2019s Leadership Journey\u2122 program, you know that once you identify a habit or behavior that is not working for you, you must replace it with one that will provide you with positive results.\u00a0 (This keeps us from regressing back to what is familiar to us, even when we know it\u2019s counterproductive!).<\/p>\n<p>Habits allow us to save time; we don\u2019t need to think about what we\u2019re doing, we merely \u201cdo it\u201d.\u00a0 But does this serve us well?\u00a0 Not always. As a result we need to consciously decide what to change to become more disciplined and focused, and not be on \u201cautomatic pilot\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Some common unproductive habits include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Procrastination<\/li>\n<li>Ignoring conflict<\/li>\n<li>Consistently being late<\/li>\n<li>Interrupting instead of listening<\/li>\n<li>Multi-tasking when full focus is required<\/li>\n<li>Ignoring life \/ work balance<\/li>\n<li>Failure to set goals (or not making them your priority)<\/li>\n<li>Allowing phone calls and emails to divert your attention<\/li>\n<li>Not returning phone calls<\/li>\n<li>Disregarding commitments<\/li>\n<li>Not sleeping enough<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So what can you do?\u00a0 Start replacing your non productive behaviors with those that will help you achieve the results you desire.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re consistently late for meetings set an alarm on your laptop, watch, phone, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Post notes in your office reminding you of what TO do.<\/p>\n<p>Block out time in your daily calendar and use that time to return phone calls and emails.<\/p>\n<p>Use your goals to set priorities.<\/p>\n<p>Organize your day; determine what must get done and abide by your task list.<\/p>\n<p>Add your personal tasks to your calendar.\u00a0\u00a0 Ex.
