Dear Leaders,<\/p>\n

The economic climate continues to lag, job opportunities are limited, and job security is a thing of the past. Have you been impacted? Has your career path been altered or your retirement plans changed? If yes, you\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n

We talked previously about personal branding and the need for providing value and being recognized for your contributions. You need to determine what you want to be known for and deliver levels of excellence to promote yourself. \u00a0This is a good start but more can be done.<\/p>\n

Meade Dickerson, Certified Executive Coach provides the following tips to take control of your career:<\/p>\n

Understand the health of your company and anticipate and be ready for change.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Create a plan in case you get laid off or your hours cut.<\/strong> (Having a 6 month emergency fund is recommended).<\/p>\n

Control your work budget;<\/strong> think in terms that it\u2019s your own money and make spending decisions accordingly.<\/p>\n

Join networks!<\/strong> (Even if it\u2019s only through online groups).<\/p>\n

Be open to a new career; keep your resume updated and be clear about your strengths and weaknesses.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Engage a career coach; they can help you validate your \u201cwants\u201d and \u201cstrengths\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n
