Some have the belief that leaders are born; at PeopleTek we believe that everyone is a leader. (You\u2019ve heard this many times before!) As leaders, it\u2019s up to us to use our skills, abilities, and talents to maximum our potential. Leadership is comprised of many components, and one of the most important is the ability to know and understand YOU. If asked, how would you respond to:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Where are you going? (vision, mission, goals)<\/li>\n<li>How do you plan on getting there? (strategy and plans)<\/li>\n<li>How could others assist and support you? (people)<\/li>\n<li>What may get in your way? (barriers, weaknesses and the over-use of strengths)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Tying into the first question, success requires having a vision, a mission, goals, and measures, and that ALL behaviors support them. (We also refer to this as <a href=\"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/do-you-have-vmgm\/\">VMGM=B<\/a>.) They must be documented, shared, and understood. Effective leaders need to demonstrate the behaviors necessary to realize them, and must be willing to change\/eliminate some behaviors that will better position them for success. That\u2019s where the Leadership COMPASS comes in.<\/p>\n<p>Leadership and direction go hand in hand.<\/p>\n<div>\n<h3>Leadership COMPASS Components<\/h3>\n<p><strong>C<\/strong> \u2013 Communicate Effectively<br \/>\n<strong>O<\/strong> \u2013 Optimize Differences<br \/>\n<strong>M<\/strong> \u2013 Manage Change<br \/>\n<strong>P<\/strong> \u2013 \u00a0Plan, Persist, and Organize<br \/>\n<strong>A<\/strong> \u2013 Appropriately Handle Conflict<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong> \u2013 Sustain\/Enhance Relationships<br \/>\n<strong>S<\/strong> \u2013 Skillfully Influence Others<\/p>\n<p>As leaders we need to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Determine what we <strong>KNOW<\/strong> about our strengths and opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Go through a <strong>DISCOVERY<\/strong> process and solicit feedback<\/li>\n<li>Be <strong>AUTHENTIC<\/strong> and identify how we can increase levels of trust and be open (and sometimes vulnerable)<\/li>\n<li>Identify ways to be more <strong>INNOVATIVE<\/strong> and creative<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You\u2019ve heard it before and you\u2019ll hear it again: leadership and success require courage, commitment, and the willingness to step out of our comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p>You must create and develop your leadership skills with a purpose, not by mistake.
