You may have the\u00a0greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don\u2019t play\u00a0together, the club won\u2019t be worth a dime\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u2013Babe Ruth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Are you part of, or do you lead, a strong and successful team? \u00a0Successful\u00a0teams consist of individuals that have a common purpose, focus on shared goals,\u00a0and have a desire for their team to flourish.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t always take the time to build relationships and understand and\u00a0improve team dynamics, but making the investment upfront will enable you to build\u00a0your \u201c dream team\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Strong and successful teams are comprised of individuals that trust one another,\u00a0hold one another accountable, and are comfortable with expressing differing\u00a0opinions. And, they clearly understand and appreciate the strengths of the other\u00a0team members. Maximizing collective strengths provides greater results, fosters\u00a0creativity, and increases inspiration, motivation and satisfaction levels.<\/p>\n<p>Creating a strong team takes time and must be reinforced over time. (It\u2019s\u00a0not a \u201cone shot deal\u201d). Open lines of communication are critical,\u00a0as are acknowledging contributions and openly discussing areas for improvement.<br \/>\nNo finger pointing!<\/p>\n<p>Do your team members understand your department vision and what it means to\u00a0them personally? Are conversations held (both one on one and in a team setting)\u00a0to discuss how individuals and the team as whole could more effectively achieve\u00a0their vision?<\/p>\n<p>What about behavioral assessments or feedback and survey results? There are so many tools that can be used, and you can even have brainstorming sessions\u00a0to identify existing behaviors that create success, and identify behaviors that\u00a0cause disruptions or create barriers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strong teams:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Share their successes and failures.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Address conflict in a healthy, honoring manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Speak up when they feel other team members are out of line.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Support the common goal.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Focus on what\u2019s best for the team as a whole, instead of on individual\u00a0needs.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Use \u201cwe\u201d, \u201cus\u201d and \u201cthe team\u201d instead\u00a0of \u201cI\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Readily share information and knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>What can YOU do to make your team a \u201c dream team\u201d?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cComing together is a beginning.
