Happy New Year! \u00a0The holiday season is winding down and now it\u2019s time to establish a clear\u00a0direction for 2013. \u00a0In the words of John F. Kennedy “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.”<\/p>\n

Setting our direction keeps us moving forward; we\u00a0need to know where we\u00a0want to end up, and we\u00a0need a plan for reaching that destination. PeopleTek\u2019s\u00a0COMPASS<\/a> can help!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

SETTING A CLEAR DIRECTION<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

By using the PeopleTek COMPASS, you will:<\/div>\n
\n

\nReconstruct your career
\nInfluence productivity for growth
\nEstablish and share a direction to achieve success<\/p>\n

So, how should you start using the COMPASS? We suggest reviewing your VISION, MISSION, GOALS, MEASURES and\u00a0BEHAVIORS.<\/p>\n

Are they documented?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Do you \u201clive\u201d the behaviors necessary to realize them?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Have you communicated them?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Could you change any behaviors to better support the attainment of your VMGM?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Based on our experience, the biggest mistake people make when setting goals, and\u00a0the biggest misconception people have about goal setting is that don\u2019t think they need them; when they finally realize they do need them, they don\u2019t write them down.<\/p>\n

Another issue is that people think their goals need to be perfect. Not true! Goals must be re-visited, and revised as\u00a0necessary.<\/p>\n

Use the COMPASS components to assist you. As a reminder the components are:<\/p>\n

C \u2013 Clarity and Communication<\/strong>
\nO \u2013 Optimize Differences<\/strong>
\nM \u2013 Manage Change<\/strong>
\nP \u2013 Plan, Persist, and Organize<\/strong>
\nA \u2013 Appropriately Handle Conflict<\/strong>
\nS \u2013 Sustain\/Enhance Relationships<\/strong>
\nS \u2013 Skillfully Influence Others<\/strong><\/p>\n

For each of the components, ask and answer:<\/p>\n

\u2013What is known and shared about your strengths and opportunities?<\/em><\/p>\n

-In what ways could you be more open and authentic?<\/em><\/p>\n

-Who can you ask for feedback to learn more about your strengths and areas for improvement?<\/em><\/p>\n

-How could you be more creative and innovative?<\/em><\/p>\n

-What can be added\u00a0to\u00a0your development plan to\u00a0 strengthen the\u00a0components and be more impactful?<\/em><\/p>\n
