(That means\u00a070%\u00a0of all workers are merely \u201cshowing up\u201d, biding their time for other opportunities, or are actively disengaged)!Not only does productivity suffer, but negative behaviors and attitudes run rampant.Are you as a leader in the position to motivate, influence and inspire engagement levels? \u00a0ABSOLUTELY!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cIn motivating people, you\u2019ve got to engage their minds and their hearts.\u00a0 I motivate people, I hope, by example \u2013 and perhaps by excitement, by having productive ideas to make others feel involved\u201d.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<div>\u2013Rupert Murdoch<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Despite hearing throughout the years that motivation only comes from \u201cwithin\u201d, we believe as leaders we have the ability to inspire, influence, and yes, even motivate others.<\/div>\n<p>You\u2019ve heard us speak about \u201cmagic dust\u201d (strengths and passions); identifying what our team members are passionate about, and recognizing and utilizing their skills\u00a0goes a long way towards enhancing levels of engagement and motivation.<\/p>\n<p>We can learn from the <strong>U.S. Army<\/strong>.\u00a0 In their 1973 handbook, they encourage leaders to:<\/p>\n<p><em>Allow the needs of your team to coincide with the needs of your organization<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Reward good behavior (especially those that support the goals of the team\/organization)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Set the example<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Develop morale and esprit de corps<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Allow your team to be part of the planning and problem solving process<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Look out for your team<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Keep them informed<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Make their jobs challenging, exciting, and meaningful<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Counsel people who behave in a way that is counter to the company\u2019s goals<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Find out what makes your team proud and how they feel they add value; allow them to do what they do best!<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing and rewarding what they view their greatest skills\u00a0to be will set the stage for motivation, results, and increased levels of engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Make \u201cmotivate, influence and inspire\u201d one of your 2013 goals!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that in the U.S. it\u2019s estimated that only 30% of the workforce is truly engaged when at work?
