What about your peers, direct reports, or even your boss? For our purpose, we\u2019ll define being engaged at work as \u201ca commitment to support your brand\u201d, and \u201ca measurable degree of positive or negative emotional attachment to your job, colleagues, and the organization as a whole\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cThrilled employees create more customers worldwide. The problem is that only about 30 million, or 30%, in America, Inc.\u2019s workforce are engaged\u201d.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong><em>\u2014<\/em><em>Jim Clifton \u2013 CEO at Gallup<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>U.S. Workforce Engagement\u00a0. . . \u00a0 Per CEO Clifton:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>30% of workers are engaged<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>50% are just showing up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>20% are actively disengaged<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We find these numbers staggering! Consider how your results and levels of productivity would grow if you could influence just 20% more of your workforce. (Or if you could move the needle for the 20% that are actively disengaged).<\/p>\n<p>Clifton says it\u2019s the role of managers of all levels to understand what\u2019s happening with the 30% of employees that ARE engaged.<\/p>\n<p>What differentiates them from the remaining 70%?<\/p>\n<p>Salary is one factor, but researchers have found that happiness does not increase once a $75,000 annual salary is reached. BOTTOM LINE:\u00a0 It\u2019s not about the money!<\/p>\n<p>There are 2 things that DO make a difference:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Having someone at work who encourages development<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Having the opportunity to do what the individual does best every day<\/strong> (you\u2019ve heard us speak about \u201c<em>magic dust<\/em>\u201c; your uniqueness, special skills and strengths)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Engagement levels grow when:<\/p>\n<p>-Individuals lead integrated lives in which their careers and their personal lives fit seamlessly and harmoniously together<\/p>\n<p>-Ambition, talent and capacity <strong><em>serve individuals well<\/em><\/strong>, rather than <strong><em>enslave<\/em> <\/strong>them<\/p>\n<p>-Passion, energy, and focus are leveraged<\/p>\n<p>-Individuals\/leaders learn to fulfill their own vision, and assist others to fulfill theirs<\/p>\n<p>-Individuals\/leaders are persistent and don\u2019t give up easily<\/p>\n<p>As an <strong><em>individual<\/em><\/strong>, what actions are you taking to increase <strong><em>your<\/em><\/strong> level of engagement?<\/p>\n<p>As a <strong><em>leader<\/em><\/strong>, do you have a goal to increase <strong><em>engagement levels for your team<\/em><\/strong>?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Do you consider yourself to be \u201cengaged\u201d when at work?
