It probably does as we\u2019ve been purporting this idea for years.<\/p>\n<p>Building and maintaining character is encompassed in strengthening leadership skills, and is\u00a0what, in part, will influence others to follow and respect you.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The glue that holds all relationships together \u2014 including the relationship between the leader and the led is trust, and trust is based on integrity.<br \/>\n\u2013Brian Tracy<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>CHARACTER and LEADERSHIP&#8230;If you had to pick the top 2 characteristics that strong leaders must possess, what would you choose?<\/p>\n<p>We pick:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Integrity<\/li>\n<li>Trust<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To be a leader (successful or otherwise), you must have followers.<\/li>\n<li>You can\u2019t succeed without the trust and confidence of your team.<\/li>\n<li>Your peers, subordinates and co-workers will work around you if you are perceived as untrustworthy or not living the values you require from them, or they from you.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Trust can be lost (or never obtained) when:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0You are too direct.\u00a0 People can be caught off guard and become \u00a0 uncomfortable. As a result your message and intention are never received<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Point fingers or are too quick to assess blame<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Play favorites or only give a \u201cchosen few\u201d opportunities<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Jump to conclusions<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Fail to solicit opinions or differing ideas<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Don\u2019t \u201cwalk the talk\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Are unable to say no and as a result over commit<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Don\u2019t treat others respectfully<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Won\u2019t take a stand (or make one and continually change it)<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Are disorganized<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Exhibit inconsistent behaviors and have inconsistent expectations<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Are non responsive<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Lack the ability to admit mistakes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trust produces positive and productive relationships and improves results.
