{"id":11633,"date":"2020-02-06T16:34:50","date_gmt":"2020-02-06T21:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/?p=11633"},"modified":"2021-10-14T21:39:07","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T21:39:07","slug":"mentor-mentee-partnership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/peopletekcoaching.com\/staging\/2020\/02\/06\/mentor-mentee-partnership\/","title":{"rendered":"The Mentor\/Mentee Partnership"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p>Mentors guide, motivate, inspire and support \u2013 enabling the mentee to achieve their life&#8217;s goals and aspirations.\u2014Mentor City<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>How do you define the role of mentor?<\/strong> We define it as <em>&#8220;someone who imparts wisdom and shares knowledge with a less experienced person&#8221;<\/em> and perhaps someone with &#8220;less exposure&#8221; than that of the mentor.<\/p>\n<p>Part of the mentor\u2019s role is to provide:<br \/>\n-Meaningful and frequent feedback<br \/>\n-Explore strengths and needs and create and update a development plan<br \/>\n-Networking opportunities are identified and leveraged<br \/>\n-Trusting relationships are built and nurtured<br \/>\n-Ongoing open lines of communication<br \/>\n-Realistic expectations for attaining goals and results<\/p>\n<p>Mentoring may be formal or informal, but the expectations and roles should be defined and agreed to at the inception of the relationship.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>1. What\u2019s the purpose of the mentorship?<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>2. What type of expertise\/guidance is the mentee seeking?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Note: In general, mentors\/mentees do not have a reporting relationship allowing for candid discussions.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some tips for the mentee:<\/p>\n<p><em>Be receptive to coaching and suggestions made by your mentor<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Focus on expectations; it\u2019s up to you to share your desired goals (short and long term), what you view as your &#8220;dream job&#8221;, and your vision for your career path.<\/em><em>\u00a0 \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Stay current on required work skills. What talent would look<\/em><em> good on your resume? Would any certifications or other <\/em><em>position you to stand out from the competition?<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Discuss your successes and accomplishments as well as your <\/em><em>barriers and problem areas<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Solicit feedback; what could you do better?\u00a0 What\u2019s working<\/em><em>\u00a0well and what is not?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Are you willing to share your wisdom and experiences with others to help them grow? \u00a0If yes, become a mentor!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>A mentor can be a role model, coach, sounding board, voice of reason, emotional support, counselor, and a trusted resource.\u2014Mentor City<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mentors guide, motivate, inspire and support \u2013 enabling the mentee to achieve their life&#8217;s goals and aspirations.\u2014Mentor City How do you define the role of mentor?
