Initially we\u2019re &#8220;gung-ho&#8221; about our intentions, but all too often by the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th month of the New Year, we\u2019ve put them aside. Success Magazine\u2019s Inga Stasiulionyte recommends:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><strong>1. Focus on commitment, not motivation.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Just how committed are you to your goal? How important is it for you?<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>2. Seek knowledge, not results.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>If you focus on the excitement of discovery, improving, exploring and experimenting, your motivation will always be fueled.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>3. Make the journey fun.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>If you make it too serious, there\u2019s a big chance it will start carrying a heavy emotional weight and you will lose perspective and become stuck again.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>4. Get rid of stagnating thoughts.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Thoughts influence feelings and feelings determine how you view your work; focus on the ones that will move you forward (excitement, experimenting, etc).<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>5. Use Your Imagination<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Maintain your energy and rename your situation with a positive twist; find something to learn, and for three days, think and say positive things only.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>6. Stop being nice to yourself.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Motivation means action and action brings results. Get out there, challenge yourself, do something that you want to do even if you are afraid.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>7. Get rid of distractions.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Learn to focus on what\u2019s most important. Write a list of time-wasters and hold yourself accountable to not do them.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>8. Don\u2019t rely on others.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>You should never expect others to do it for you; it\u2019s all on you.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>9. Plan.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Know your three steps forward; update your weekly calendar with when you will do what and how.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>10. Protect yourself from burnout.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em>Be self aware and recognize any signs of tiredness and take time to rest. Do diverse tasks, keep switching between something creative and logical, something physical and still, working alone and with a team. Switch locations.
