Are team members comfortable:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Admitting and owning weaknesses and mistakes?<\/li>\n<li>Asking for help?<\/li>\n<li>Offering and accepting apologies without hesitation?<\/li>\n<li>Sharing their knowledge to help others grow?<\/li>\n<li>Supporting shared goals where the team will be recognized as a team, rather than as individuals?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Trust issues continually score high as a &#8220;need&#8221; for individuals, teams, and organizations. This pertains to relationships with colleagues, peers, and bosses, and can also apply to strategic partners and vendors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do you think that is?\u00a0 Common responses include:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>What\u2019s in it for me to be vulnerable?<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>If I share my knowledge, I won\u2019t have a &#8220;leg up&#8221; on others.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>I prefer to work solo rather than in a collaborative mode.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>It\u2019s intimidating to speak up and I\u2019m adverse to conflict<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Below are some tips for increasing workplace trust:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess whether there are any reasons others may not trust you.\u00a0 Work on them!<\/li>\n<li>Do you consistently display the behaviors you wish to see in others?<\/li>\n<li>How is your current work culture? What changes could be made to make it stronger?<\/li>\n<li>Select a highly trusted leader; identify the behaviors you feel make then successful and add them to your &#8220;tool-belt&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>ASK your team for their ideas about improving trust.<\/li>\n<li>Listen and be responsive! Author Patrick Lencioni says<em> &#8220;Transparency, honesty, and vulnerability are the key ingredients required for a team to be trusting and truly cohesive&#8221;.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What actions can you implement to improve workplace trust?<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One of the most valuable things you can do to create higher levels of trust is to trust others more.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t wait for them to prove themselves to you.
