Kouzes<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>Many studies have been conducted about leadership challenges, and most have quite a few commonalities:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Developing effective leadership skills<\/li>\n<li>Managing through change<\/li>\n<li>Consistently recognizing and rewarding accomplishments<\/li>\n<li>Inspiring others<\/li>\n<li>Communicating goals and how they can, and must be, supported<\/li>\n<li>Building trust within teams and across organizations<\/li>\n<li>Being aware of, and having the skills, to address conflict<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That\u2019s a relatively short list.\u00a0 Which do you find most troublesome? Which challenges would you add?<\/p>\n<p>As leaders, we need to be self aware. How do we see ourselves? How do we show-up? Next is the tough part, how do others see us? Answering these questions may add to our personal list of challenges.<\/p>\n<p><strong>To SELF ASSESS, ask yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What\u2019s the purpose of my leadership?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Would my staff feel that I\u2019m committed to their improvement? <\/em><br \/>\n<em>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do I feel I make a real difference and feel valued? Would my staff agree?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do I create and maintain relationships that help the organization thrive and obtain results?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do I know what\u2019s expected of me and do I deliver on those expectations?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do others know what I expect of them?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Are my priorities clearly communicated and supported?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Do I take sufficient action to improve individual and team performance?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Am I committed to self development?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>10.\u00a0 Is going to work enjoyable? (at least most of the time?)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>11.\u00a0 What keeps me up at night?<\/em><br \/>\n<em>12.\u00a0 What are my challenges and what am I doing do address them?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As we\u2019ve said before, being a leader is not easy and requires courage.
