That\u2019s because without relationship building, we as leaders would not obtain desired results, we wouldn\u2019t have effective and productive teams, and the morale, commitment, and dedication of the team members would be diminished.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Greg Halpern says: <em>Transformational leadership is about implementing new ideas, continual change to maintain relevance, staying flexible and adaptable, and continually improving relationships with those around them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He also feels that transformational leaders build relationships by applying or possessing the following behaviors and traits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Charisma<\/li>\n<li>Inspirational motivation<\/li>\n<li>Intellectual stimulation<\/li>\n<li>Individual consideration<\/li>\n<li>High morals<\/li>\n<li>Trustworthiness<\/li>\n<li>Creates an actionable vision<\/li>\n<li>Treats everyone as individuals<\/li>\n<li>Coaches, mentors, and provides growth opportunities<\/li>\n<li>Creates a culture of self-fulfillment and self-worth<\/li>\n<li>Provides constant and candid communication<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dr. Terry Jackson adds to this list in his <strong>7 Principles For Developing Quality Relationships<\/strong> where he defines what in his opinion constitutes quality relationships:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Acceptance<\/li>\n<li>Respect<\/li>\n<li>Understanding<\/li>\n<li>Transparency<\/li>\n<li>Non-judgment<\/li>\n<li>Empowerment<\/li>\n<li>Trust<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>This is quite a list and one that even a seasoned leader will need to review in depth to assess up-skill needs.<\/p>\n<p>We suggest you rate each one on a scale of 1 \u2013 5 to help narrow down areas for development.\u00a0 You can even ask your peers and direct reports to rate you and compare how aligned you are.<\/p>\n<p>The results may prove interesting!<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Manipulative Leaders-Create Distrust and selfishness<br \/>\nTransactional Leaders-Create Mediocrity and complacency<br \/>\nMotivational Leaders-Create Positivity and Action<br \/>\nInfluential Leaders-Create Growth and Empowerment<br \/>\nServant-Leaders-Create Authenticity and Explosive Growth<br \/>\nTransformational Leaders-Create Change and Leave Legacies<br \/>\n\u2015 Farshad Asl<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All good businesses are personal.
